Why I Could Care Less What the Media Says about Space

Yikes. Just caught a few minutes of the McLaughlin group (which for the
record is a Sunday news talk show which is essentially a few talking
heads yelling at each other). They brought up Discovery's recent
mission.
>>From Pat Buchanan's "retire this one and turn the other two over to the
military", to stereotypical 50-year-old liberal chick's "we don't need
to send human's into space, and BTW: a woman commanded this one, GIRL
POWER!" And a good chunk of them prediciting the shuttle would never
fly again.
No mention of course that it took less TPS damage than possibly any
previous flight.
Being born well after Apollo, was this the way the media swooped in to
decry that program?
