unmanned shuttle operations were worked on.

You see shuttle could be made cargo only if nasa wanted. nasa will want
this when they decide its just too unsafe to continue flying people but
flying unmanned few years allows completion of station. the fact auto
revendous was tested....

DART and ITAR
April 17, 2006 -- Updated May 18th, 2006

I don't get it. It's ITAR protected to say that a good bit of the DART
spacecrafts flight software
was based on existing code developed for shuttle autonomous rendezvous
experiments in the
1990's (had the human element in the loop). This software was modified
to work without human
intervention. Parameters in the existing code to support human
involvement were not needed
and stubbed/capped. A couple of programmers (just before flight and
without authorization)
altered the code to include one of these parameters. This resulted in
the flight software acting
incorrectly during close proximity operations (and impacting the target
satellite twice- eat your
heart out DOD). What the DART software was made of is a matter of
NASA PAO release. I
don't see how it's ITAR to say what happened (but how would I
know.....).

The DART report (more of a summary) was released by NASA yesterday.
