NGST works in a different spectral band than Hubble and has different
instruments. It's not a direct, or even close, replacement.

Which is why I say we need to continue to service Hubble in the future (and
would love to launch the Kodak blank.)

I mean I'm not sure what it is exactly about Hubble (well I have some pretty
good ideas) that leads folks to think, "ok, this is better, let's toss it
away."

I mean the 200" Hale didn't stop being used because we've gotten bigger
telescopes.

No, there are still telescopes even far older still in use for different
purposes.

I think given the ability, astronomers would continue to find uses for
Hubble for a very long time.

But I guess we should be thankful it's lasted this long and getting its next
servicing flight at all.

And use the money for building a super size ground based scope maybe
in Chile

That's somewhat like selling your 18-wheeler and buying a schoolbus
with a busted engine and a burned out interior.
