As I told a friend the best outcome is this.

Source of debris located and shuttle cant safely land.

It returns to ISS, and the soyuz on station returns to earth along with
3 crew of the stranded station group.

this leaves 6 stuck at station with soyuz return capability.

it begins a BIG media event, shows the ineptness of the partners
lacking emergency soyuz return vehicles....

shuttl;e death plunges into pacific....

crew gets back ok:)

shuttle program terminated, ISS reevaluated,

CEV fast tracked on board expendables......

we move forward in space and dont risk futher lives onboard the costly
dangerous shuttle
