So now you are saying that the Soviets designed the Energiya, which looks
like a shuttle stack without the shuttle, as a general purpose heavy
lifter.
You know that the first of two flights of that very launcher was with a
payload that did not look even remotely like a shuttle?
And why didn't it go on lifting other things after Buran was
cancelled?
For the same reason. Buran and Energiya and a load of other things got
cancelled because the USSSR was collapsing.
I suppose the four boosters were squeezed together at the sides in case
other payloads happened to have structures resembling *wings* on them also.
And here they are, going against common engineering sense, and putting
payloads on the sides of rockets, for which the shuttle has been repeatedly
criticized. The synchronization of the two designs is astounding.
They look somewhat similar but they are very, very different. Ask NASA
to replace the two SRBs with four liquid fueled boosters and put the
SSMEs at the aft of the ET and you'll see you end up with a new system
and not just a changed one.
Come on. Yes there are differences but clearly they were following NASA's
lead unabashedly, probably hoping to get there first. When NASA won, the
program was cancelled. It makes more sense and is in keeping with the evil
empire's habits that the story that Energiya was designed as a general
purpose heavy lifter was just a cover story to hide embarrassment.
You seem to have a very strong opinion on some things and you also seem
to be not that much interested in facts.
