Else who reads Science Fiction books?
Hey, in Niven and Pournelle's "Footfall," the aliens bombed the ***
out of earth with asteroids. In the new Robinson/Heinlein "Variable
Star," Sol is made to go nova. Anything can happen in SF.
Don't forget Heinlein's "Moon is a harsh Mistress" where the lunar
colony chucked stuff at Earth via the mass driver used for cargo
transport.
