I see Lee's point. With a winged craft your ascent stage must hall up all
of the wings, extra TPS, landing gear etc. As was said earlier, you lauch
250,000 lbm to insert less that 50,000 lbm mass of payload. You also expose
the crews life just to put a satillite in orbit when an unmanned booster
could have done the job. Total launch mass is a huge cost driver.
