Well, I've heard so many conflicting statements on where they would land,
I'm beginning to think nobody has decided yet.
As for how long, that depends on whether its a land grab and run, or a
proper stay.
If the latter then before anyone goes, someone will need to land the living
quarters with spares for two years, and have a fool proof way to give oxygen
and food etc, to however many they want to send. Additionally, presumably,
there will have to be some kind of living accommodation for the trip both
ways which will presumably have to be mothballed in orbit, or someone left
behind to look after it there.
As the close distance only comes around every 2 years, I'd imagine that its
going to be a long time till it actually happens, if at all, given the
fickle Government spending imperatives.

I know it's a long way off, but what is the plan for re-entry of the
Orion crew capsule or whatever it's called - are they going to aim for
the lakebed at Edwards or what?
Also, concering a trip to Mars, which might happen in the early
2020s.. how long would the mission be? I really hope I get to see that
happen in my lifetime..
But how long would the journey out there be? How long would the
spend.. and the journey back?
And how big would the crew be? I would think there'd be a lot of
things to consider - I'm assuming we're talking at least a couple of
years - that's a long way to be away from home and family..
