Is public support for manned space programme dead ?

CNET had some pictures of that CEV thing (computers simulations). The comments from the public were quite negative about returning to 1960s stuff and the CEV/Orion being very unimpressive.
Here, there are almost no discussions left on the shuttle. No worries/discussions about sabotage of a computer for ISS, no discussions about problems with current shuttle launch next week, and I think this trend has been growing for some time now. In the past, there were still good dicsussions despite the NASA-KNOW-IT-ALL's insistance on discrediting the posters that are not part of their "approved poster" list.
Have people lost interest in the shuttle and manned space programme alltogether ?
Heck, in the CNET article, they even mention that they would be interested in re-using the shielding used by Apollo for the CEV thing, but they would need the scientists who developped it because they are having problems with it. (looks to me like this should have sparked quite a few discussions about documentation within NASA).
If space geeks are no longer interested in what is going on at NASA with regards to manned space programme, wouldn't that mean that normal people would have even smaller interest in it ? This would have important political ramifications when NASA goes to congress to ask for more money due to cost overruns and delays on that 1960s CEV thing.
