Well, you 'know' incorrectly.
True. SSME's used to be pulled after each flight and torn down for
inspection. That's not the case today. Many improvements have been made to
the SSME's over the years, including new LOX and LH2 turbopumps. The safety
and longevity of the turbopumps was a concern with early SSME's.
Yep. We finally got the damned things working great, and so of course,
now we're throwing them away in three years. Sigh.
