I know each SSME is refurbished post flight.
Well, you 'know' incorrectly.
True. SSME's used to be pulled after each flight and torn down for
inspection. That's not the case today. Many improvements have been made to
the SSME's over the years, including new LOX and LH2 turbopumps. The safety
and longevity of the turbopumps was a concern with early SSME's.
Jeff
aired on the processing of Discovery on NASA TV. They stated each SSME
is removed and refurbished after each mission.
I may be wrong, but if I am it is because the horse was talking out of
the wrong side of it's mouth.
But thanks for the information.
