VIFs and Tolerance stats

In a list of VIF and tolerance stats for a multiple regression
analysis how do the numbers relate to one another? Sequentially? Or do
I need to know the manner in which the predictors were entered into
the equation to determine this?
Or have I completely missunderstood what I have read and the numbers
actualy refer to collinearity with the DV?
