Whether the main effect is meaningful depends on all sorts of factors
other than the statistics. My personal view is that you'd report the
data in a way that does not obscure anything the reader might think
important. This might involve reporting the main effect, but would
certainly involve appropriate graphs and/or descriptive statistics that
allow a reader to make an informed judgement about what's going on.
