Re: Hypothesis testing vs. effect size

I like Rex Kline's 2004 book, Beyond Significance Testing. It's published by
the American Psychological Association. Also, anything by Bruce Thompson is
good on this topic.

As a mathematical statistician and teacher firmly grounded
(brainwashed?) in the Fisher/Neyman-Pearson hypothesis testing dogma,
I have only recently been exposed to the controversy regarding
significance testing in certain fields.

I have been tracking down articles and books on the limitations of
significance testing and suggested alternatives, and want to learn
more.

My problem is that I can not find anything on the introductory level.
Where are the textbooks or resources that introduce effect sizes and
explain the theoretical justifications for using them and how to
compute confidence intervals of the estimated effect sizes for various
experimental designs? Where can I find an introduction to meta-
analysis? I have been searching for textbooks in vain.

Can anybody point me in the right direction?

Jonathan
