To judge, first read what Rota. He was not pandering to generalities...

This was not my title. It was the title of Rota's Fubini lecture in
Italy (a very, very well received lecture). As far as I know, Rota was
so good in mathematics he didn't sweat
these small issues ... he had far bigger fish to fry.
