For the benefit of Dishonest Abe, the term "is related to" does NOT
imply a "necessary condition", to most folks with IQ higher than 1
digit.

Ah, you couldn't care less how Einstein's IQ was estimated. You
just wanted to get in your cheap pun about "cunning linguists".
Estimation of IQ of dead folks are usually engaged not by linguists
nor necrophyliacs, but by pcychologists who dreams about snakes and
other phallic symbols, according to Freud, related to your notion
of cunning linquists.

Anon Bob, you can be excused for your unfamiliarity with 'Merkin
Presidents and famous folks. The John Adams, whose IQ was
estimated to be 137, was the founder of Abe Kohen's Cunning
Linguist Society <an unsubstantiated historical conjecture
that is seriously conducted by the same scientists on the Dead
Sea Scroll>; whereas President John Quincy Adam was estimated
to have an IQ of 153.

That brings us to the MEANING of a high IQ number and what it means.
I am glad you asked. :)

Take Einstein (please). He was estimated to have an IQ of 160.
Sort of a Mental Midget in IQ among High IQ Society members. See,

http://www.eskimo.com/~miyaguch/history.html

The "trandition" meaning of IQ (being a Quotient of Mental Age
over Chronological Age) is a gross approximation that is
applicable only to very young children.

It would be be absurd to think that when Einstein was 70, his
IQ of 160 meant he had the intelligence of a 112 year old.

Thus, the IQ RATING is calibrated by Gaussian distributions of
mean 100, and standard deviation of approx. 15. Thus, Einstein
was estimated to have the intelligence in the top 99.99
percentile of the general population, or 4 standard deviations
above the mean.

That kind of calibration is somewhat meaningful up to only
about 3 standard deviation of the Gaussian distribution.
Even for people who are ALIVE, an estimate may be better than
an actual tested IQ score (especially when the IQ was taken
when very young).

Marilyn Vos Sawant was estimated to have an IQ of 186 on the
list, which is a very charitable over-estimate of her intelligence
OR IQ, if she were to take it today, judging by the substance
of her weekly syndicated columns in the Parade Magazine (USA Sundays).

She never accomplished anything more significant than being a
school bus driver until she conned her IQ score into Guinness's
World Record book, which listed her as the World Record Holder
with a certified record of 220.

That may well be true. Let's say she took an IQ test at the
age of 2 and was rated to have the inteligence of a 4 1/2
year old, that would have given her an IQ of 225 according to
the traditional meaning of Mental Age / Chronological Age.
Big deal! How many people do you know that have taken an IQ
test at the age of 2, or 3? That's a case where the
Gaussian calibration interpretation wouldn't work well either
for the lack of an adequate sample for calibration purposes.

I didn't take any IQ test until I went along with my daughter
to take the MENSA test. At any rate, when I was 6, I was
attending the 3rd grade. Had I had an IQ test at the age of
2 or 3, I might have had a score of 200 or 300, but that
wouldn't meaning anything, as in the case of Marilyn Vos
Savant, except to the Guinness World Record morons. :-)

Now we can get back to Einstein and interpret his estimated IQ
of 160 to mean that he has the intelligence above the 99.99th
percentile of a general population, and not that he had the
intelligence of a 114-year old, when he was 70.

Speaking of USA President's IQ on the estimated list, our
current Prez, George W. Bush, had been estimated at various
times by various polls to be the President of the USA having
the lowest IQ in the history of the USA. :-) A bit of a
political hyperbole, but not far from the truth. <G>

That is certainly consistent with the various unintelligent
things he has done as a President, and the fact that legend
has it his first four grades at Yale were "F"s. And it's
not easy to get ANY "F" at Yale. <BWG>

Now that you have gained some additional knowledge about IQ and
how IQs are estimated and scored, you could easily discount any
IQ figure above 145 or below 55, and look at the rest of them
with LARGE grains of salt.
