If you're used to Matlab, you might find S-Plus (or the free
downloadable translation of it, called "R") to be easy to learn to do
the suggested analysis. Or find a computer with SAS on, and someone
who knows how to program it.

From an engineering perspective, the method of choice would be multipleregression.
Attempt to fit a model of the form Response = bo + b1*x + b2*y.
With the proper software you should get the "t-ratio" for the model
coefficients b1 and b2.
I tried to use Matlab, but I was not able to find anything that might
anything that could give me the "t-ratio". Could you please let me know
what kind of software are you referring to?
