Bob Ling admits, finally, that is human, and so can be wrong. What a progress!
However the Readers should pay attention on the kind of error and its origin. He wrote:
*** I have not seen this formula by years***
Ok, I’ve not way to check if he lies. Therefore I believe: Bob Ling hasn’t seen it by years. He put down it by hearth.
However it should be noted that is of the human condition that once a formula is carefully derived it remains forever in our mind even that 50 years had passed.
Conclusion Bob Ling NEVER did it the derivation.
For sake of completeness I self-quote in the context:
*** Bob Ling, the ichthyologist disguised in statistician (?), had posted that the formula of the variance between two populations proportions
___p1= x1/n1 and p2 = x2/n2 was
_______p´*(1-p´)_______p´= (x1+x2)/(n1+n2)
If it was not the case that a Reader notice the BLUNDER he, on his own initiative, never would find that a factor, _______1/n1 + 1/n2 was disappeared owing to his incapacity even for the less intellectual demanding work - to copy. Not to saying his inability to derive the formula which is a particular version of
_______ p1*(1-p1) / n1 + p2*(1-p2) / n2
with p1= p2 = p´.
Simple isn’t? This is precisely the guy that full of boast intend to be considered a statistician, and a Teacher (!?)...***
Follow-up.
Nothing more is needed to be added: Bob Ling DID NOT ever, ever, derived either formula: the general and the particular one. As a typical Teacher he didn’t make much effort to understand what he *teaches* (= what he demands the students memorize).
Other point. What is a scandalous lie, a calumnious statement is that
_____I divided the sample proportions difference by the VARIACE rather than the standard deviation (SD) ____
WHO PUTS HIM IN JAIL?
________licas (Luis A Afonso)
Addenda
___Certain I made arithmetical errors, to which I ask for forgiveness, but any comparison is possible with the one made by Bob Ling here reported.
