death/wounded rates in US wars by year, does it follow the normal curve?

If one looks at the USA involvement in Veitnam, the death rate by year
follows the normal curve over the course of the conflict. Do the
other wars in US history follow that as well?
I am able to find death rates for the whole conflict but finded it
year by year is difficult. Has someone done this analysis before? Is
there a good article on this subject?
