Hi All,
Request you to provide me answer to the following question relevant to
Confidence Interval.
For sigma (Standard deviation) = 15, what sample size is required to
specify 99% confidence interval of ±5 units for mean?
Please solve this problem.
I guess this is a good point to explain the rules about doing homework
on sci.stat.math. Basically, we're not here to do your homework for
you: you're assigned it so that you will do it yourself, and learn from
the experience.
On the other hand, if you can demonstrate that you've made a serious
attempt at it, then we'll give hints, and make suggestions. I think the
ideal case is where a student says "I did x and y, got to this point,
but can't work out what to do next. I think I should try z, but can't
see how/why." It helps us focus on what the student doesn't understand,
which helps them learn too.

Hi Bob,
I did try to solve this problem but could not. Yes, I do agree that I
should be more explanatory. I do appreciate your thoughts as it would
help us to learn from our experiences.
I also read through several books, yet could not find the solution as
the mean value is not provided.
Request to provide me hints, I will try to solve and come back for
clarification.
Thanks and Regards,
Satish
