Re: Why Do Researchers Tell Lies About Smoking and Health?

But in this case, Where is the viable research?

In Australia the age-adjusted death rate has not
improved for 80 years. (I would expect a similar result for the US but
I don't recall ever seeing the numbers.)

Utter rot. It would be mind-boggling if the steady trend in mortality
improvements seen in the other industrialized nations were no also
measureable in Oz. You are simply making up statistics that support your
crackpot position on the benignity of smoking. I suppose you can always
plead ignorance as an excuse for writing that nonsense, but unless you
promptly retract that falsehood, it will be clear to all who is really
doing the lieing. The relevant search terms "secular trends" and
"all-cause mortality".

Yer own government says otherwise:

Figure 20 of the following citation shows longer term results:

Age standardization distorts the estimates of population effects, but it
would not be able to eliminate the secular trend in mortality improvement
which is occurring in all age segments and all nations with a halfway
decent sanitation and healthcare system. The US has lagged European
countries but still shows ongoing improvements in mortality rates at all
ages, with the possible exception of early adults where auto accidents
are the leading cause of death.
