Utter rot. It would be mind-boggling if the steady trend in mortality
improvements seen in the other industrialized nations were no also
measureable in Oz. You are simply making up statistics that support your
crackpot position on the benignity of smoking. I suppose you can always
plead ignorance as an excuse for writing that nonsense, but unless you
promptly retract that falsehood, it will be clear to all who is really
doing the lieing. The relevant search terms "secular trends" and
"all-cause mortality".

Nah, that can't be the whole story. Too many scientists are
happy to admit odd findings if they promise new research
opportunities. And everyone is looking for miracle cures.
But in this case, Where is the viable research?
I think it would come from a more rational approach to the question of
smoking and health. In Australia the age-adjusted death rate
for cancer
