What is the objection to writing more books like this.

Seriously the odd mu xbar and rho are ok and I didn't have problems in
my introductory stats/probability class. It's the intermediate and
advanced classes that are the problem.

It starts to break down when multiple squiggles are used in one
formula to represent things that unlike mean and standard deviation
are not familiar. It's really hard to think about or talk about
something that you can't name.

I have a lecturer in CS who says he had the same problem as an UG and
he used to replace all the variables with letters from the English
alphabet until he got used to it.

Right now I'm looking for a follow on to Berry but from that point on
everything is written in hieroglyphics.

The use of "squiggles" greatly reduces the lengths of
expressions, and makes them more readable. The idea
of using them is elementary algebra, NOT higher
mathematics; in fact, it is what makes the use of
"mathematical notation" so efficient and powerful.

I was surprised to find that Russian mathematicians did
not use letters from the Russian alphabet; it would not
have made it that much harder for me to read, and I have
essentially zero Russian vocabulary. Chinese characters
would be harder; there are too many of them.
