Hi Gregor,
I have not used or examined the Coolpix 5400. I think that some
people who tried to use the newer versions of the Coolpix with the new
lens (different from the 4500) and the same techniques that worked
with the 900-4500 series cameras ran into problems. Using the older
techniques requires being in the telephoto range and there is
considerable loss of sharpness at the edges and some distortion of the
aspect ratio.
Since all of the new cameras were intended to work with the same slide
copier, I would imagin that the 5400 could be used also. BUT I DON'T
KNOW FOR SURE.
It was with great trepidation that I purchased the 5000. I bought a
refurbished unit at rock bottom on eBay so I would not have too much
tied up in it. My first efforts were a disaster until I figured out
what would work. I have been keeping a low profile for that reason.
