I'd suggest sticking with an accredited laboratory. Building material
samples can be tested for $6-10 each, which is a bargain considering
all the liability issues involved here in the US.
For the Record, Phase Contrast Microscopes will not identify asbestos,
it is typically used to count fibers in air samples, irregardless of
the fiber type, in areas where asbestos is being or has been removed.
Building Material samples can be analyzed using a combination of
Stereo Microscopy and PLM, or with TEM, and in some cases SEM, though
the latter is not as well accepted. None of these are something
easily set up in a roving lab, unless it's in a trailer or some such.
