Hello,

I hope this is the right group to post - if not, perhaps someone can point
me in the right direction.

We are looking for a good setup for image analyses for our microscopy
laboratory (we study soil thin section). We have four microscopes, some
with digital video cameras already (interfacing, one, througha frame
grabber, the other through a vie card), but are looking into purchasing at
least an extra digital still camera and, if necessary, software for image
analysis, database storage.

What are current views about this? Are there any free downloadable
software that deserve to be considered in lieu of commercial ones? What
cameras are best for the x10 to x400 range (with PPL and XPL)?

Many thanks?

m.
