After much searching and learning about older Nikons I've found out the
following: The Nikon SMZ-2B and 2T are the old models of their current
SMZ-800 (same zoom range). The SMZ-U is the same as the SMZ-1000. Their
older models have metal casings and most parts are made of metal, whereas
the new models are mostly plastic but with larger stands. The SMZ-1500 is
a true new model, but for what I need to do, I think it may be a bit of an
overkill.
I've been looking for a nice used Leica or Wild M8 but so far have been
unsuccessful at finding one that will meet my needs. I have also looked
at the Olympus 1145, but apparently they are in very high demand and are
hard to get a hold of.
I just tough I'd pass on the information, while my search continues.
