Hello,
Frankly, $750 is a very tight budget for a good college level
microscope. The best opportunity to meet your goals of quality plus
price is to look for a refurbished Zeiss, Leica, Nikon, Olympus,
Wild/Heerbrug, Americal Optical, etc. These were quality instruments
when they were first made and retain that basic quality even as they
age.
Many are sold on eBay, along with cheaper imports from China and
India. The imported third world scopes are not good optically even
though they may look slick and modern.
If you are not confident purchasing a used instrument on eBay by
yourself, contact a professional microscope service shop in your area
through the Yellow pages or even on the internet. Repair shops
usually have older scopes in good condition at all price levels.
