You can conveniently search and download patents from

For instance, a patent about "Edge Enhancement of Phase Phenomena"
4,255,014, which contains some interesting illustrations. You could search
for Nomarski's patents about DIC or get some nice illustrations about AO's
annular reflector design for microscope objectives (4,160,578). All free and
clear.
