Canon 350D for photomicrography?

I am interested in trying out the Canon 350D (or digital rebel XT) on a
microscope using a T-mount adapter. I already have a setup for a D70, which
works fine. The problem is that I am using the D70 for photography rather
often and I am slowly getting tired to always have to swap cameras. I wanted
to buy a second D70 but the 350D has some features I like (very low noise at
ISO 400 and 8 MPixels). The camera is also slightly smaller and is of less
weight.
If you have experience with this camera model, please let me know. I am
interested to find out how this camera works in manual mode when attached
with a T-mount adapter to a microscope or telescope. Does it still allow
metering? Does it still support TTL?
I know that many people work with the old Canon D30 and D60. But I have
already decided not to buy a used DSLR. The 20D is another option but at
$1200 a little bit too pricy. Nikon's upgrade to the D100 will probably take
another half a year until it hits the shelves.
Thanks,
Gregor
