From everything I have read about a Cambridge microtome they are extremely well designed devices. I has been said that raw castings or one with years of use cut uniform sections due to the clever way they were designed so wear was self adjusting.

Glass knifes can be made by breaking plate glass in the floor and picking out the good knifes and it can be had for the hauling at any glass shop when they replace broken windows. There is nothing shaper for soft tissue than freshly broken glass knife.
