Update on buying a beginner's Microscope / was Bosma / Baytronix question

Hi NG,

First I wish to thank all of you who replied, Dbohara, Kevin, Aaron, Richard, GTO, and Gordon and those who didn't too !
I followed your advice and we acquired an American Optical "Fourty" on Ebay for a hundred dollars. This was our budget in the first place, and it came with both the reflected and transmitted light thingamajigha.
The eye pieces were a little dirty, and unfortunately one of the focusing knobs got broken during shipment, due to poor packaging (box too small and just a bunch of poly chips). Other than this little inconvenience, the thing works great, as far as I can tell.
I could not discern any abberations or things that shouldn't be there.
My wife is looking at her coins right now, and she will probably re-organize every single one in light of better seen conditions.
So, Kevin, the things at stake are safe (for now :) and I will conclude by saying again a big thank you to all of you who helped us make the right choice. People out there, don't buy cheap new imported equipment, invest your hard earned money back in the good ole US of A, and for the same amount, you'll get something at least as good, and probably better !

Have a great day.

Hi all,
My wife is collecting coins and looking to buy a stereo microscope with low power magnification. Since this is only a hobby, normal price brand ala Zeiss and Bausch-lomb are frankly out of the question.
While researching, I came across the "brand" Baytronix, sold by Ebayer Taximarket. Looking further, it appears the real manufacturer is Guangzhou Bosma in China. http://bosma.com.cn
I understand that we should not expect the same level of craftmanship than that of the better brands, and a lot of amateur astronomers warn about cheap Ebay telescopes from the same Chinese outfit.
As far as microscopes are concerned, I would appreciate any feedback you guys could provide us, since I could only find the usual paid-for-reviews online.

Thank you in advance
Yves

Sorry all, I realize the subject has been extensively covered before, it's just the brand names I used for my search in this group aren't mentioned, but it's the same stuff as Euromex.
So, if I get this right, half of you guys say "stay away from it it's crap", buy a used name brand, and the other half say "you get what you pay for" correct ?
If any of you feel like not replying to the same old question again I will understand. Thank you anyways, sincerely.

Yves.
