Make sure you have plenty of light. The DP70 is not real sensitive.

What 100X objective are you using? What condenser are you using?
At 1000X mag, to really optimum results, I find that a PlanAPO
objective is needed along with an aplanatic condenser. I use a DP70
and all PlanAPOs on my BX51.
