Al, The condenser your talking about is an Abbe that adjusts by gently
screwing it into place. It moves up and down for proper illumination by
just twisting it. Just close the field diaphragm and focus the image of the
field diaphragm with the condenser then leave it alone.
As for the stage part, it might be good if you could show some pictures.
