The models work this way. The DM1000 is the student to high student model.
At the high end the DM1000 has a semi-Kohler illumination set up, ie: it has
a centerable field diaphragm. At the low end it competes with Nikon and
Olympus student instruments.
The DM 2000 is the clinical instrument, fluorescence and all that are
availible. Of course there is a tiltable head and the coarse-fine is
tiltable (!).
Now the really neat stuff is the is the DM 3000. This instrument is aimed
squarely at pathologists. The nosepiece and condenser are motorized so as
you change from objective to objective the condenser says centered and the
diaphragm is properly set, all's you have to do is press a button.
Costs will be similar to Nikon and Olympus.
