The microscope also has a small box labelled "extension rings model K"
but which contains a cylindrical device which also can be screwed to
the front of the objective.
Perhaps the box is not the original for your device...
Nikon extension rings model K is/was a set of 5 different extension
rings produced for manual Nikon F cameras, for "macro"photography using
e.g. a standard 50mm f/2.0 lens.
(These "simple" and totally non-automatic rings have a combination of
Nikon F-mount and 52mm filter thread, and I still and often use them
with my FM2 camera.)
