Re: Inverted fluo for cell culture: Olympus, Zeiss or China ?

Good points. Let me throw in my 2 cents. In the dealers world Olympus and Nikon are so close in wholesale price. I did a comparative price list once and the Nikon and Olympus prices were about $50 apart at most. Sometimes Nikon was more expensive and sometimes Olympus.
Kevin, O.K. on your hint I looked on the old Nikon quotations and it seems that pricewise, I could afford the TS100-F
http://www.nikonusa.com/template.php?cat=5&grp=24&productNr=TS100
which seems to be in the same category as Zeiss Axiovert 40 and Oly IX41.
Again the drawback (intentional by the manufacturer ?) that the slider holds only 2 cubes (and one open position). I would hate to constantly manipulates the cubes to get the DAPI/FITC/PE pictures.
I will get freh quotes to compare. What took my attention now once I look on the details was the high N.A. of the Nikon objectives.
Make sure you have a
competent dealer. I would buy the microscope from the best dealer, the
instruments are so close.

Well, they have territories, so do I need to go with the regional one ? And with the Zeiss, you are dealing with the center anyway... A good dealer can get manufacturers stock and
demo stock at good prices if you press them enough.

That's what I hope. There are e.g. some current deals on Zeiss objectives.

A good thing is buy a
great frame and then over time build it up.
My thinking, but this presumes that there will be influx of money in the future and that the current setup will be satisfactory for current needs.

Zeiss is a great choice along with Leica if you have $120K to spend, if you have $20K, our Japanese friends do better.

Surprisingly, I got the Zeiss quote and I would fit in even with a "Plastic DIC" setup. Explained to me as a new offer by Zeiss enabling to use DIC with plastic dishes. Anybody has a comment on usability ?
