Hi Henry,
What I once tried with schlieren was based on a simple darkfield stop,
for say a 20x /0.4 lens. Around the stop (the DF cone) was split into
concentric rings with different colours, starting blue, green, yellow,
red (or the other way around, can't remember exactly what I did
anymore). NOT coloured sectors--that's Rheinberg illumination. Anyway,
the idea was that degree of detail fineness should yield different
colours, but I didn't find much variation and gave up on it as it is
quite a bit of work to make different schlieren filters for trial and
then for each objective (NA)...
What is is you want to do (just curious)?
Rene.
