Re: Adjusting Binocular head on Zeiss GFL

Thanks to everyone who shared information concerning our initial
problems in setting up the Zeiss GFL! We have the binocular head
aligned for our eyes, and have an exceptionally bright, crisp,
contrasty images on the three objectives we normally use! It certainly
makes a difference when the binocular images merge properly! The 15
watt lamp bulb is amazingly bright, even running at 4.5V!

The abbe condenser has two swing out concave lenses, situated below the
diaphragm. When we bring both of those lenses in alignment with the
condenser, the brightness (or the degree of concentration of light)
increases considerably.

We appreciated the many suggestions for cleaning, lubrication,
alignment, and information/links to purchasing replacement bulbs!

We can now understand why the older Zeiss plan objectives and KPL
eyepieces bring very good prices on ebay! They are far superior to
anything we have ever experienced, by quite a margin!

Thanks again to all who shared information! We are sure to have more
questions as time goes on, but for now you all have helped make our
experience with this old microscope a very rewarding one!
