Position Vacant - Particle Microscopist/Trainee Microscopist
Location -
- Brisbane, Queensland, Australia.
Employer -
- SIGMA Energy Solutions. A well established Scientific and Engineering Consultancy company derived from the government-owned power industry in Queensland.
Duties -
- Routine identification and semi-quantification of environmental fallout and domestic/commercial dust deposits.
- Identification of asbestos and other mineral fibres and other occupational hygiene samples.
- Materials microscopy of degraded non-metallic materials.
- Basic FTIR and FTIR-Microscopy of non-metallic materials.
- Undertake training in basic SEM/EDA to assist in routine work.
- Assist with Process Chemistry, Environmental or Materials laboratory work as required.
Qualifications -
- Professional or para-professional qualification or equivalent experience in science with a preference for chemistry, materials or forensic sciences.
- Demonstrated experience in polarised light microscopy and/or SEM/EDA. Good biological experience with a passion to learn PLM may be considered.
- Graduates with polarised light microscopy training or experience (eg. undergraduate optical mineralogy) would be considered for a trainee role.
Tenure/Basis -
- We are flexible in how we might resource this function and options include either a Part Time or Full Time permanent position. The position might suit an experienced microscopist in semi-retirement or with family obligations which limit available hours. The right trainee would be offered a full time position with prospects for development into advanced optical and electron microscopy work.
- An attractive salary package commensurate with experience and employment basis will be negotiated.
