Good Day,

I own a Nikon SK-E microscope with polarizing attachments.

1.) Unfortunately the fine focus no longer works very well. Does anybody
have any suggestions how this can be fixed and where one can get
the spare part consisting of the nylon ring with teeth driving the fine
focus mechanism.

2.) Does anybody know where one can get parts for this microscope
such as trinocular heads or the halogen lamp housing?

3.) Does anybody know how the polarizing eyepieces, designated by
P are constructed. Are they plane achromats identical to the plane
achromats
used for brightfield observation, only chosen to be strainfree?

Thank you for any suggestions.

G. R.

This is the big time problem with that series of Nikons. At that time they
were imported by Ehrenreich Photo-Optical. Joe Ehrenreich gave a lifetime
warranty on the microscopes but the lifetime is long over. Joe sold the
company back to Nikon, he had bought it when it was auctioned at the
beginning of WWII.

It is rare that a Japanese company will make parts after the model is
discontinued. Parts are made when the company wants production to make say
100 parts. Production makes 105 or so. This compensates for any mistakes,
misproduction problems and the last 2 or 3 goes to parts. When these are
gone thats the end. Now I once ordered a part for a 1938 Zeiss, got it in 2
weeks and it cost me the GNP of Ecuador. On one hand what a great deal, on
the other hand Zeiss had to have the personell, etc to produce the part. I
have one part left, if you are interested contact me of line
(smskjc@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx).

Parts for this instrument are hard to come by, keep looking on E-Bay.

Your eyepieces are similar to Kpl Zeiss's I think. They are not similar to
objectives at all. One point is that the objective and eyepiece have to
correct about 12 things. Some makers do it in the eyepiece and some makers
do it in the objective. It's never the same between two makers. Strainfree
objectives and eyepieces are designed from the ground up to be strainfree.
