Nikon Objective 2x/0.05 with Iris Diaphragm

Hallo,

I own a Nikon objective 2x/0.05 for a 160 mm tube with a long working
distance.
The objective also has an iris diaphragm.

Can anybody tell me the purpose of the diaphragm?
