There was a 1.2x, 2 and 3x and a special low power condenser to fill the
large field that had no diaphragm ,so the objective diaphragm was most
likely primarily for contrast control.

Hallo,
I own a Nikon objective 2x/0.05 for a 160 mm tube with a long working
distance.
The objective also has an iris diaphragm.
Can anybody tell me the purpose of the diaphragm?
Thank you
