Dear Group,
Of the various explanations given in response to my original question
regarding the function of an iris diaphragm on a Nikon Objective of
2x/0.05 I think that of Ron is the best.
I looked into various old Nikon literature and I did find mention of
a "low-power condenser with a numerical aperture of 0.32 for use
with low power macro-objectives, e.g. 1.2x, 2x and 3x plan achromats".
Thank you for your answers

There was a 1.2x, 2 and 3x and a special low power condenser to fill the
large field that had no diaphragm ,so the objective diaphragm was most
likely primarily for contrast control.

Hallo,
I own a Nikon objective 2x/0.05 for a 160 mm tube with a long working
distance.
The objective also has an iris diaphragm.
Can anybody tell me the purpose of the diaphragm?
Thank you
G. R.
