Re: NanoScope IIIa - "Stage Controller Error"

Dear Ian,
Your best bet is to ask veeco about this. I am sure they will provide
support, even for an "old" NS IIIa. Also, if you do not get any
response, post to the SPM users forum. See:
http://spmlist.di.com/mailman/listinfo/spm
There is always help a vailable there, and if you post a question there
that should be answered by veeco, they always respond quickly - it
makes them look good!
Pete.

I am an undergraduate working in a lab and have been given the task of
getting an old NanoScope IIIa working again. Does anyone know what
"Stage Controller Error" indicates? When I select 'Initialize' from
the 'Stage' menu the software tries to move to the top of the travel,
as it should, but then after a short pause and no moving motors I get
the "Stage Controller Error". The Manual describes this as "The serial
port connected to the Dimension 3100 stage is not communicating
properly" The cord they are referring to goes from the computer to the
stage and is plugged into both. Does anyone know what I should do to
initialize the stage without getting this error message?
