I have a Vickers 4-lens turret 1000x oil immersion microscope that has a
variable power illuminator and power source that's configured for
standarduse. I would like to convert the illuminator and power source to
forUS 110 volt. Does anyone know how or where this can be done?Phil, Disconnect the power supply and remove the screws so you can get to
We're an animal rescue group in NJ.
Any advice will be deeply appreciated.

the transformer. About 60% of the time there will be an internal method
changing the voltage. Usually this is relatively simple.
Kevin, I couldn't see a way to change the voltage.
The bulb fixture plugs into the power supply. Couldn't I just connect a
standard 6 V adapter directly to a similar bulb fixture and eliminate the
power supply completely? The mic has a diaphragm, three filter holders, and
an adjustable condenser. So, how important is having an adjustable light
source? The mic will be used for examining fecal samples for parasites and
eggs and urine samples for crystals, and identifying external parasites.

As for bulbs, try one of these, www.bulbdirect.com or
www.atlantalightbulbs.com . You'll have to spend some time and go over
the light bulbs but the odds are one of these will have your lamp.
The bulb is an 8018 X, 6 volts, 15 watts. Your sources carry 8018 but not
an 8018 X. The "X" has a rim, the 8018 doesn't.
If I can find a source for the bulb, I'll go with a step up transformer from
Radio Shack. That's the simplest solution.
