Re: Olympus CK Microscope

Thanks again for responding Kevin.

I tend to favor scopes from the 50's and 60's....who made LWD in that
era?

In particular, I have access to a Leitz Diavert that I would like to
find something above the 32x phase that we have.

thanks

Thanks for responding Kevin...

40x LWD? Who makes a LWD objective at this power?

I have been looking for one above 32X for a long time.

Nikon, Zeiss and Olympus do. They have for decades. You might not have
seen one since they are rather rare. If you're a pro you knew and just
waited for some one to say they wanted an inverted. I would bet they made
them on a 3-4 year schedule. Now the Nikon and Olympus one started out
short barrel then moved up to long barrel. They were LWD with correction
collars and usually .55 NA.

I am considering buying an Olympus CK microscope.

I havd searched the archives looking for information on this microscope
but have found nothing. Does anyone know where any documentation for
this scope is on line?

Also, could I get your opinion as to this scope?

How was phase capability implemented?

Thanks

TMT

The CK was a truly great instrument, there still in just about every
tissue
culture lab. They led to the newer versions, the CK was quite variable
so
we techs would set it up and warn the user that great evil would over
take
them if they ever messed with any of the parts. Mostly any microscope
like
the CK was designed for 20X and less, you could put a LWD 40 on it but it
didn't work that well. First of all the 40X was designed with glass
vessels
in mind and secondly, no fine focus. Phase inserts were put in the
projection tube above the stage.

The biggest problem a CK will have is age. They used the short barreled
objectives and these are long gone. If you find one at a good price and
you
need and like the CK then go for it, the beast will just keep on runnin'.
