Well that sounds like a dream come true. Where did the lucky dude get a
_new_ BX-51 with DIC for $8k? I am interested to know because I am looking
for a mint DIC setup for less then 10k. The Olympus DIC parts list for
around $6k alone. And this does not include objectives or frame. Just all
the DIC prisms and the Universal condenser. Are we talking about legally
obtained goods here or the ones that fell of the truck somewhere?
The list prices for BX-51 and accessories are adding up significantly. A
demo unit may sell cheaper. But then again, we are talking new prices. Once
we start looking at older demo stands without factory warranty, we may as
well question the whole merit of buying a newer scope and recommend the good
old Leitz Orthoplan for 5k.

I did not know that Olympus is selling out their stuff so cheaply.
I believe that the E600 with phase sells roughly for the same amount as
the
BX-51. The condenser alone costs more than $600, the phase lenses (Plan
Achros only) are over 2k and the frame with trinoc is over 5,2k. How could
he possible make this for 7k? I assume he also needs to pay CA taxes.
After
all, he ends up paying at least 9k for a complete system.
Forget the PlanFluor lenses at this budget. The 40x alone is over $900.
The
phase version sells for more than $1100.

Well, another user got a new BX-51 with DIC and phase for about his
price point of $8K. He is very happy with the system.
The strategy for really good deals is to inquire about demo items.
These are typically 25% off list.
What he wants is, IMO, atainable from Olympus. And the system works
really well. Simple, efficient, no hassles.
Not my money. But I have three Oly stand systems and prefer them to
Zeiss or Leica or Nikon. Again, not my money at issue.
