My binocular head appears to have a small fungus ring UNDER the black
paint on the back. I was thinking of carefully stripping the paint,
fixing the fungus, then reapplying suitable black paint. Anyone else
attempted such a repair? Anyone know if the black paint is a special
type, and if so what type is used for such an application?
The fungus doesn't really impair the image quality, but it bugs me!
(BTW, I can re-collimate!)
Thnx for any advice -hj
I'd be very carefull doing this. I don't know what kind of prism this is or
were its located. When I had to repaint a prism I used model paint, about 2
coats, worked well.
Remember this might be from something in another place and it just appears
in the prism. Also I'd be very nervous about re-colimating a prism.
Sometimes collimation wasn't use, manufacturers sometimes use set gauges
that they make. If you take one of these apart and don't have the gauge
you're doomed.
Thanks,
