Re: Control software for Sony DXC-390 camera

Kevin, I did some search in the consumer products and found Impact VCB
from Hauppauge. It is based on Conexant 878A chipset. I wonder if this
should work as well. Or is it too cheap and would degrade the output
from the Sony's DXC-390 camera? It seems to me that the DXC-390 output
(analog) resolution is just normal NTSC with 480 vertical scan lines.
Does it mean that anything beyond 720x480 pixels in the digitized form
(after ADC) is useless?

Since this is a real time tv 8 bits each would be adequate. By the way I
just googled "frame grabber cards", some are quite cheap and very usefull.
Try Matrox, they make good, inexpensive stuff.

Thanks, Kevin. However, the dedicated frame grabbers are rare species
nowadays. There are so many consumer video capture cards out there and
I believe their current capabilities should be up to the job. I wonder
which products would be a better match to the DXC-390 camera in terms
of digitalizing resolution, color depth, etc. Ideally the card should
have a component video input to match the DXC-390 RGB sync output, but
I'm okay with S-video pairing. Does anybody have specific
recommendations of some products? Thanks.
